How are Alumina Ceramic Plates Made?
Powder Preparation
GALLOP INNOTEK alumina powders are manufactured in different purities according to your product requirements. Sintering additives such as traces of magnesium oxide and silicon oxide are also added to increase the strength of GALLOP INNOTEK alumina ceramic plates and to reduce the sintering temperature. After grinding, the slurry is spray-dried to produce small, homogeneous, spherical agglomerates with good flow properties.
Forming
GALLOP INNOTEK can be formed into slabs by dry pressing, cold isostatic pressing, or casting of the powder into the desired plate shape. In particular, cast moulding enables the production of very thin and uniform alumina ceramic plates. They are mainly used in the electronics industry.
Sintering
Sintering is carried out in high-temperature kilns at temperatures ranging from 1600 to 1800°C to uniformly combine the granular ceramic blanks and form a dense, hard solid. Afterwards, GALLOP INNOTEK is cooled in strict accordance with a set cooling curve to minimize the effect of the cooling rate on the product’s durability.
Finishing
After sintering, the ceramic plates undergo shrinkage and deformation. GALLOP INNOTEK finishes by grinding, polishing, or laser cutting processes to ensure your alumina ceramic plates are of precise dimensions and surface finish. Finally, strict quality inspections are carried out to produce high-quality and high-performance products.
Types of Alumina Ceramic Plates
High Purity Alumina Ceramic Plates
GALLOP INNOTEK offers high-purity alumina ceramic plates with an alumina content of 96% & 99.9% typically. Alumina Ceramic Thermal & Insulation Planner

Planning/reference estimate: Excludes contact resistance, metallization, flatness, dielectric-strength derating, creepage, clearance and standards. Supplier and safety review are required.
Despite its many excellent properties, alumina ceramic plates have some limitations. It is brittle, has low toughness and poor impact resistance. Thermal shock stability is average, and cracking is likely to occur under rapid temperature changes. In addition, alumina ceramics are more difficult to process and relatively expensive to manufacture. Its thermal conductivity, while superior to most common materials, is still inferior to aluminium nitride (AlN), and therefore may appear inadequate in certain very high power dissipation application scenarios.
Alumina, as one of the most cost-effective engineering ceramic materials, has good electrical insulation, wear resistance and mechanical strength, and is one of the most widely used structural ceramics. Aluminium nitride thermal conductivity is significantly better than alumina, about 5-6 times, suitable for high thermal conductivity requirements of the occasion, but the price is higher. Zirconium oxide has better toughness and fracture resistance and is less prone to brittle rupture, but has lower thermal conductivity and higher density.
